Emergency need for blood and platelets


Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. The Red Cross supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood supply,  Following the July 4th holiday weekend, the American Red Cross is expected to experience a significant blood shortage and will issue an emergency request for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve and help save lives.
